2024 MGSCC Annual Meeting

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the 2024 Mohave Ground Squirrel Conservation Council annual meeting. We convened at the South Point in Las Vegas, coming together to delve into a variety of topics essential to our cause. From dissecting the history of our bylaws to assessing the functionality of our website and examining the committee reports detailing the activities of 2023, the discussions were diverse and engaging. Reflecting on the accomplishments of the previous year, it was evident that 2023 had been a promising chapter for the Mojave ground squirrel community, setting a strong foundation for the future.

Among the many engaging discussions, one that particularly resonated with me was centered around outreach, education, and professional development. Hearing about the forthcoming Mohave Ground Squirrel Workshop with the Wildlife Society was especially exciting. Learning from experienced instructors promises to be an enriching experience, and I eagerly anticipate the knowledge and insights it will bring to my overall understanding of the MGS.

Adding to the excitement of the meeting was the announcement of a new board member at large, Milena Mokhayesh. Her involvement in the fundraising committee further underscores the commitment and dedication within our community. With spots still available on the board for the MGSCC, there's ample opportunity for those passionate about conservation to join our cause, whether through membership, volunteering, or contributing in other ways. The Mohave ground squirrel relies on our collective support, and together, we can make a meaningful difference.
